One of the first questions that patients ask when being diagnosed with diabetes is, what can I eat?

We, at Alma Health, are here to tell you, that with the right method, you can eat a variety of delicious foods, while keeping your sugar levels in target range.

The Plate Method is the easiest way to create a healthy meal with the perfect balance of vegetables, protein, and carbohydrates.

All you need is a little bit of creativity and a plate (23 cm):

Fill ½ of your plate with non-starchy vegetables

Salad mixed greens, such as lettuce, kale, arugula, and spinach
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Bell peppers or hot peppers
Zucchini and eggplant
Mushrooms

Fill ¼ of your plate with lean proteins

Lean beef
Chicken
Turkey
Salmon, cod, tilapia, swordfish, tuna
Eggs
Cheese

Fill ¼ of your plate with grains or starchy foods

Brown rice
Bulgur
Beans
Whole Wheat Pasta
Lentils
Potatoes and sweet potatoes
Hummus
Falafel
Edmame

Remember, the more colorful your plate, the healthier it will be! So go ahead, eat the Rainbow!
