Janumet 101

Janumet 101 - Alma Health

Is Janumet the same as metformin? And what is used for?

Janumet and Metformin aren’t the exact same drug despite the fact that both are used in treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Janumet is a powerful type 2 diabetes medicine that combines Sitagliptin and Metformin and is used to lower blood sugar more than metformin alone.

What are the side effects of taking Janumet?

  • Sudden sweating, shaking and hunger
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach upset
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Weakness
  • Metallic taste in the mouth may occur

What is the best time to take Janumet?

It is recommended to be taken with meals to help in lowering your chance of having an upset stomach.

It is better to take Janumet XR with your evening meal.

Your doctor will do a full assessment for your case to decide whether you need Janumet or Janumet XR.

The difference between the 2 types is that Janumet XR stays much longer in your body and you need less frequency of doses.

Each case is unique in its own way so whatever suits you best might not suit your friend or other family members so you better leave the decision to your doctor.

Important note: Make sure to take the tablet as a whole. Don’t break, cut, crush or chew your tablets before swallowing.
